The Smart Car - Compact Design; Forward Thinking
In 1993, Daimler-Benz and Swiss watchmaker Swatch jointly created Switzerland's Micro Compact Car. Later the company moved to Germany and renamed the vehicle Smart. Smart is an acronym for "Swatch Mercedes Art". Daimler Benz provided build quality and engineering expertise to the production of Smart auto. Swatch applied its unique design philosophy.

Change of Heart Saves Smart Auto

Amid rising gas prices in 2006, Daimler-Chrysler announced that the Smart Car would be available to the U.S., in early 2008. The Smart Car were sold by Penske Automotive Group and marketed as Smart USA. Although it was only the fourth best energy-efficient vehicle on the market, cost was roughly half of its competitors. In January, 2010, Smart USA has began its first lease program for the Fortwo model(s).
